A Night in the Woods was inspired by a true event, which occurred in the summer of 2009. One day, while Josie's daddy, Ryan, was studying for a big test, Josie and her best friend Charlie were playing outside in the woods. Usually, Josie and Charlie stay very close to the house when they play outside. This time, daddy was studying so hard that he didn't realize when Josie and Charlie wandered off into the woods by themselves. While Charlie was found quickly and brought home, Josie was missing for nearly 30 hours, including an overnight stay in the woods filled with bears, mountain lions, coyotes, and other wildlife!
The event was extremely emotional, and many people joined in the search for Josie. Eventually, Josie was found and reunited with Ryan. While Ryan and the other people involved vividly recount the event from their perspective, A Night in the Woods tells the story from Josie's point of view. Josie has tried her best to tell the story as it happened, but as we all know, puppies do tend to exaggerate the truth from time to time...
A Night in the Woods is a simple story to understand: Josie gets lost in the woods and needs to find her way home to her daddy. A series of events along her journey make for an adventure children can connect with, which are sure to make your child laugh, feel anxious at times, and finally bring them a sense of peace and love.
